SILENCE
listening flesh
Based on Jean-Luc Nancy 'The Intruder', influenced by Brandon LaBelle 'Sonic agency', Salomé Voegelin 'The political possibility of sound' and John Cage 'Silence'.
This series of classes were taught along 2021/2022 in Berlin and Brazil. Having the friction between sound and dance as a triggering action, the sessions implement various listening tasks to provoke movement research in solos and within a group. Notions of affect, empathy and care are some concepts that touch the classes.
SEEKING FOR BOUNDARIES. AIMING TO TOUCH THEM, MOVE THEM, STRETCH THEM, BLUR THEM IN THE ENCOUNTER WITH AN-OTHER. STANDING ON THE LINE BETWEEN INDIVIDUALITY AND PLURALITY THE SENSES ARE CHALLENGED TO (DE)FORM THE SKIN MELTING THE BODY INTO ITS CONTEXT.
LISTENING ALLOWS VARIOUS SUBJECTIVITIES TO APPEAR, A DIRECTED ATTENTION FOR CONSCIOUS ELECTION.
WHAT TO HEAR? WHO TO HEAR?
WHO SPEAKS AND WHO DOESN´T?
CAN YOU SEE WHAT I LISTEN TO?
THIS PROPOSAL MAKES USE OF DANCE IMPROVISATION TO APPROACH LISTENING AS A PRACTICE THAT HELPS THE REVIEW AND RECONSTRUCTION OF THE SENSE´S CARTOGRAPHY TOWARDS AN ACTIVE REFLECTION UPON THE CONTACT WITH ANOTHER (NON)HUMAN BODY.
DANCE IS THE MEANS, SOUND IS THE ELEMENT AND LISTENING THE PRACTICE.
